The Lee’s Summit West Girls Cross Country Team secured their seventh state title in the 16-year history of the program and second consecutive title in a row at Gans Creek in Columbia on Saturday November 9.
The Titans were led by Madison Hulsey placing 11th and named All-State for the third year in a row. A late surge from the whole team in the last 50 meters of the race pushed them past Rock Bridge HS 109-112.
“We had a very exciting state meet in Columbia on Saturday and our girls pulled out the win in dramatic fashion literally in the last 50 meters,” said head coach Jesse Griffin. “Not everything went as planned but every girl on the team showed true grit and were able to rally around each other and find that little last burst of speed to secure our seventh state championship (second in a row) in school history.
Regardless of how this happened the girls on this team are forever state champions and in the MSHSAA record books. What I want to emphasize to every single girl on the team is how proud I am of all their effort and determination this year!”
