A Besler Bobblehead proved to be a popular team giveaway as the May 5th match against Colorado saw a sellout crowd of 20,554 in attendance. Sporting KC won the match 1-0 in a key MLS Western Conference contest. First place Sporting KC (6-2-2) has a sellout streak of 110 consecutive matches at Children’s Mercy Park.

Now in his 10th season with the club Matt Besler is a local product who enjoys playing for his hometown soccer team. Besler, from Overland Park, Kansas, came to Sporting KC after being selected in the first round of the 2009 MLS draft out of Notre Dame. Since then Besler has exceeded club expectations by being a regular staple of the team’s backline. Besler has received five MLS All-star nods and named MLS defender of the year among many honors in his first decade as a professional. In addition to Besler’s MLS appearances with Sporting KC he has earned 47 caps with the US Men’s national team since 2013.

The 2018 season is now 33 percent over so there is plenty of time left for local fans to catch Matt Besler in action. The 31-year-old Besler has no plans to slow down now as he hopes to help Sporting KC earn another MLS Cup in 2018.
