After 15 months of construction, McKeever’s Market opened early Wednesday morning.

“It’s always very exciting when we can finally open to the public,” said Tim Cosens, Marketing Director of McKeever’s Market.

The new-to-Lee’s Summit grocery store offers fresh vegetables, fruits, and pantry staples, as well as a vast selection of prepared foods. McKeever’s Market also boasts specialty features such as a kombucha on tap and a bakery.

The store brought around 150 new jobs to Lee’s Summit. About half of those positions are full-time. At nearly 70,000-square-feet, it is the largest retail tenant to open in the Streets of West Pryor, which broke ground last March. Drake Development is the owner of the $178 million mixed-use development at I-470 & Pryor.

“We are very fortunate to have the McKeever family bring their newest format grocery store to Streets of West Pryor. This unique new concept store provides a quality of life enhancement for each our residents at Streets of West Pryor and fills a void for the community as a whole,” said Matt Pennington, President of Drake Development.

McKeever’s Market is owned by two brothers, who are lifelong Kansas City-area residents. Their father, John McKeever, opened the first store in 1974. Cosens said when it came to expanding in the KC region, Lee’s Summit was the perfect fit.

“We’ve always thought Lee’s Summit was a great area,” said Cosens. “We’ve always kind of liked this location and hoped to get in here someday.”

The store will soon have more neighbors. Plans for Streets of West Pryor include retail and dining, as well as luxury apartments. The restaurants First Watch and Firebirds are set to open later this year.

“We are excited to see some of the key parts of the Streets of West Pryor come to life,” said Rick McDowell, President & CEO of the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council. “This development will enhance the quality of life in Lee’s Summit and give our residents even more options to explore.”
