Another newcomer to the roster of the Kansas City Mavericks is defenseman Jake Hamilton who comes to KC from a stint in the SPHL. Hammy, as he is called by his new teammates, is also new to life in the ECHL after spending last season with the Peoria Riverman in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

While Jake is new to the Mavericks, playing hockey in Kansas City is nothing new to him. Hammy’s hometown is O’Fallon, Illinois and while growing up was a member of the Chicago Fury. While playing youth hockey with the Fury the team came to Kansas City to play against the Russell Stover youth team.

Hammy’s favorite pro sports team is the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings “especially the 1995-96 team.” Long-time pro hockey fans will recall during the 1995-96 season, The Detroit Red Wings took the NHL by storm, winning 62 regular season games. Now the team is thought of as they best team ever to not win a Stanley Cup. Jake’s favorite hockey memory so far was staying with his host family in Las Vegas, Nevada while playing hockey in that city.

Hammy first put on a pair of skates at age five. He enjoys visiting the website YouTube on a daily basis. If not in pro hockey today Jake would be serving in the Marine Corps like his mom and dad did. Hammy’s favorite sports movie is “The Replacements.”

Following his playing days Jake wishes to be remembered as a “kid who does things the right way.” Now that he is in KC again playing hockey he wishes to eat some KC barbecue while he works on his game.

Check out Hammy and the rest of the Mavericks when they host the Wichita Thunder over the weekend of March 7-8. Saturday night’s game starts at 7:05 p.m., Sunday afternoon the puck drops at 4:05 p.m. inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
