Entering the final month of the 2020-21 regular season the Kansas City Mavericks were able to gain the services of defenseman Koletrane Wilson to help the team in their push for the playoffs. Wilson came to the Mavericks after playing in five games for the Stockton Heat in the American Hockey League.
Traner, as he is called by new teammates, is enjoying his first year in pro hockey after spending the last four seasons with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League.
Wilson’s favorite pro sports team no matter the league is the pro hockey teams that call Alberta, Canada home, Edmonton and Calgary. The reason for this is Edmonton is Traner’s hometown. That’s where his parents and girlfriend all root him on to success. An older brother is doing the same thing from his home in Vancouver.
Wilson’s favorite hockey memory so far happened back in 2018 when his team, Lethbridge, made the third round of the WHL league playoffs. Traner calls it “his closest moment to a championship.” Thanks to his dad, Wilson first put on a pair of skates at the age of three. If not in pro hockey today Traner feels he would be following in his dad’s footsteps as a police officer. His father is now a 25-year veteran of the police force in his hometown.
Wilson’s favorite food is ice cream, when he gets away from the sweets Traner likes a good steak, baked potatoes and a Caeser’s salad. Wilson claims “Creed” and “Creed II” as his favorite sports movie which provides Rocky fans a boxing fix. Following his playing days Traner wishes to be known as a nice guy off the ice and someone hard to play against when on the ice.
Traner is proud to hail from Edmonton a place called the “City of Champions” before he was born. The city often has been called the Sports Capitol of Canada.
Check out Traner and the rest of the Mavericks when they wrap up a three-game series against Utah on Saturday, May 29. The fun begins inside Cable Dahmer Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
