The 2020-21 hockey season started later than normal for the Kansas City Mavericks but now the puck has dropped and with it several new faces have taken the ice.
Under the leadership of new Head Coach Tad O’Had the Mavericks have brought in many new players with experience and others about to enjoy their rookie campaigns.
One of the newcomers providing experience to the team is Forward Rob Bordson. Bordo as he is called by his new teammates is returning for his third stint in the ECHL. Rob was with Trenton in 2011 and then played for Adirondack in 2015. Having played last season overseas Bordo is excited to be back in a familiar league and be closer to home.
Rob’s favorite pro sports team is the Minnesota Twins. This is due to him being born and raised in Minnesota. Bordo hails from Duluth, Minnesota. Rooting Rob on from home is his parents and a brother. Also rooting him on is Bordo’s in-laws in Fargo, North Dakota.
The left-hander’s favorite hockey memory so far is playing in the Minnesota State High School hockey tourney. Rob first put on a pair of skates at age three. Bordo feels If not in pro hockey today he would be a hockey coach or something similar. While in college Rob earned a bachelor’s degree in finance.
Rob’s favorite foods include a good steak and potatoes. Bordo’s favorite sports movie is “Major League,” one that is very popular with the team. Following his playing days the 32-year-old wishes to be remembered as a guy who “brought energy, played hard every game.”
Rob isn’t wasting time showing off his new home as the Bordson family will be in town visiting KC for the Christmas holiday and will stay to attend the Mavericks game against Wichita on Dec. 26.
Check out Rob and the rest of the Mavericks when they host their annual New Year’s Eve game on Dec. 31. The Mavs face their division rival Tulsa Oilers. The fun begins inside Cable Dahmer Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
