Typically in hockey the forwards do most of the scoring, but Kansas City Mavericks defenseman Willie Corrin won’t let that get in his way as he helps power the Mavs to another victory in the 2020-21 season.

So far in the early portion of the ECHL season Corrin’s point totals have him listed alongside several forwards and his new teammates think he will stay there.

While wearing jersey #5 this high scoring defensemen in his first season with the Mavericks is enjoying his fifth year overall in pro hockey. Bill as his new teammates call him is 29 years old and comes to KC after playing overseas in Germany and in Czechoslovakia. In fact that’s where Corrin was playing when last March shutdown orders in that country ended his season. Before the shutdown took effect Corrin and his wife traveled to Winnipeg before eventually arriving at their home in Minnesota.

The left-handed defenseman loves baseball and his favorite pro sports team is the Minnesota Twins. Corrin played both baseball and hockey while growing up in the state. Corrin’s mom, dad and his 93-year-old grandfather are still at home rooting him on to hockey success.

Willie’s favorite hockey memory so far was when he played high school hockey on the same team as his older brother and the team won a title. Thanks to a lot of ice rinks in his hometown Corrin first put on a pair of skates at the age of two. If not in hockey today Willie would be coaching hockey in college or in junior leagues.

Willie likes home-style meatloaf, cream of corn and pretty much any type of salads. Corrin’s favorite movie is “Mystery Alaska” a 1999 film. Willie played college hockey at Minnesota-Duluth before playing professionally in Orlando and Brampton his two other ECHL stops. When his playing days are over Corrin hopes to be remembered as someone who “brought energy and helped the team win.”

Check out Corrin and the rest of the Mavericks when they host Mountain Division rival Tulsa Oilers on Saturday, Jan. 30. The fun begins inside Cable Dahmer Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
