Do you remember seeing this illustrated map of Lee’s Summit in 1989? Dee Dee Cleveland Steil created it and autographed it that year.
Dee Dee is a local resident and Lee’s Summit High School graduate. She was surprised when she visited the History Museum to see her design and artwork on display. She said the curve of Highway 50 confused directions for people back then and led to this sketch. She enjoyed incorporating local landmarks and businesses in the illustrated design.
The signed map is numbered print 73 of 275 copies. It was donated to the museum by Marilyn Jones, a volunteer at the museum. Dee Dee visited the History Museum with her husband Ed and friends Vicki and Jim Shepherd, who were in on the surprise and a walk down memory lane.
Come find this display and other memories of Lee’s Summit at the History Museum, 220 SW Main Street. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. You can follow museum exhibits and events on Facebook or www.leessummitmuseum.com.
