The seventh ranked Mizzou Tigers football team survived their SEC conference opener with a two OT 30-27 win over Vanderbilt. The win improves the Tigers record to 4-0 overall on the season. The victory was earned thanks to a big game performance by the team’s running game.

Following the win on Saturday, Sept. 21 Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz said he was “really proud of our football team, we find a way to win.” On the performance by RB Nate Noel “unbelievable.” Noel helped a rushing attack that went for 200+ yards. On the team’s pass protection Drinkwitz called it “fine.” RB Nate Noel, a senior transfer commented “grateful for the O-Line for opening up the holes and blocking downfield.” Starting QB Brady Cook said of Noel “without him we don’t win.” Cook added he is “so happy for him.”

Noel on Monday was named SEC Co-offensive Player of the Week. Noel ran the ball 24 times good for 199 yards. The Tigers offense totaled 442 yards and 226 came from the ground game. With numbers like that post-game comments made by coaches and players were led to the play of the team’s offensive line.

Two of the Tigers offensive line starters come from Lee’s Summit North High School. Starting at right tackle is junior Armand Membou and at left guard is sophomore Cayden Green. While those two players start, there are a total of six players from Lee’s Summit helping the Tigers each week maintain their success. On offense is QB Tommy Lock and WR Joshua Manning from Lee’s Summit and WR Logan Muckey from LS North. On defense is Williams Nwaneri a defensive end from Lee’s Summit North.

First year Lee’s Summit North head coach Jason Rogers had the opportunity to work with both players while they were Broncos. Rogers says, “It was an extreme honor working with both Membou and Green here at LSN.” Rogers adds “Quite honestly, our program wouldn’t be what it is today without those young men.” Rogers continues, “They are the epitome of hard work, resilience and character.”

The Tigers now get to rest during a bye week before returning to the field and SEC conference play. Tigers will visit Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 5 with an 11 a.m. kickoff time when they resume the 2024 season.
