The Mother’s Day holiday has been around for over 100 years but every year there are still new ways to show how much one loves their mom. Thanks to a scheduled home game on Mother’s Day this year a record breaking crowd chose to attend a Kansas City Current game to honor their moms.

One of the many moms in attendance at this Mother’s Day game was Kara Kuttenkuler of Shawnee, Kansas. The Current was playing host to the San Diego Wave in NWSL action on this day. Kara says she was there because, “My youngest daughter suggested it.” The daughter is a big Alex Morgan fan who plays for the visiting team on this day the San Diego Wave.

Kara admitted when the game idea was suggested she “thought it was a great idea.” Kara had help getting to the game thanks to her husband who drove. In all a total of eight family members came to the game to help Kara celebrate a happy Mother’s Day. While sitting in the stands Kara was holding onto a red rose. The rose came from a Mother’s Day booth located on Mazuma Plaza, home to many pre-game events for the KC Current.

No need to find a place to eat before the game as Kara says her family “wanted to take advantage of the food here.” This Mother’s Day outing may not be it for the family coming to a KC Current game. Kara admits the family “come whenever we could.” On this day the KC Current conceded two first half goals on the way to recording a 2-0 loss. The Kuttenkuler family was part of a record breaking crowd in attendance on this sunny afternoon. A record 12,969 fans filed into the stands at Children’s Mercy Park also home to Major League Soccer’s Sporting KC.
