One Good Meal will host a 1/2 k walk on May 4, 2019, to raise funds to help veterans and other Lee’s Summit seniors with food needs. This event will start at 8:00 am and end by 11:00 am at Harris Park, 601 SW Jefferson St, in Lee’s Summit, MO. As a “reward” for those completing this short walk an outdoor pancake breakfast will be served in a Harris Park shelter house. Voluntary donations by those sponsoring, exhibiting and walking will be used for the One Good Meal food program.
As a bonus, local motorcycle enthusiasts will exhibit bikes along the walk route for participants to view and appreciate. Bikers and bike clubs interested in exhibiting should notify One Good Meal at the address below.
Spokesman Bob Johnson stated that “the idea is to raise money for veterans and seniors needing a meal. At the same time, we want to allow local bikers to show off their motorcycles to all .5k walkers.”
Each weekday One Good Meal delivers free nutritious meals to 145 seniors and veterans. Forty percent of these meals are delivered to veterans in need. Those who can afford to pay the $4.50 per meal do so but the majority of those served can’t afford to pay.
One Good Meal Director Roberta McArthur, said that the program relies on donations to operate. She said, “we do not receive city, state or federal support of any kind; however, Jackson County does provide assistance.” She added: One Good Meal is always in need of volunteer drivers who deliver the meals.”
