As members of the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference, the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District has joined other districts in voting to move forward with fall sports and activities this fall.

To support the safety of all those who participate in and support our athletic and activity programs, the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District has also joined many districts in implementing health and safety precautions.

For Lee’s Summit R-7 Schools, and all school districts in Eastern Jackson County, these precautions are in addition to the mandates issued through the Jackson County Health Department’s most recent executive order, which includes the requirements that all persons over the age of five wear a mask, and that outdoor gatherings are limited to no more than 100 individuals.

These mandates are not recommendations or guidelines, but legally-binding requirements that have been in place since July 1, 2020 and carry legal penalties when individuals or groups fail to comply.

“Lee’s Summit R-7 Schools has and will continue to comply with Jackson County executive order provisions to preserve the ability for our students to play and compete this fall,” said Superintendent Dr. David Buck. “We are grateful that our kids have the opportunity to play tonight while so many in the metro and state do not have this same opportunity.”

The district has shared with our school community this week that ensuring our seasons run smoothly and remain a positive experience for students means limiting fan attendance for our games, events and competitions. Because of the size of our football roster, the district is only able to provide each uniformed player one fan ticket and will not be able to host visiting fans at home this year.

Similar policies have been adopted by other Jackson County districts who are subject to the same restrictions.

All spectators in attendance will be expected to wear masks at all times and socially distance; at no time will spectators be allowed to come onto the playing surface/field. For the safety of all, concessions and tailgating will no longer be permitted. Those attending may bring in bottled water or bottled soft drinks. Parking lots and school grounds will be closed except for those attending events.

The district would like to thank both its home and visiting patrons in advance for their support and cooperation as it continues to work to ensure that our deserving athletes and activities participants have the complete season they deserve.

LSR7’s first home game this evening will see the Lee’s Summit North High School Broncos face off against the Blue Springs South High School Jaguars. LSR7 will livestream the game as a service to all at the following link: https://youtu.be/xc-H0R2IZBM. Fans are encouraged to watch the game from home.

“We are asking for everyone’s cooperation to allow us to safely host this event,” Lee’s Summit North Athletic & Activities Director Mike McGurk said. “Ultimately, we are trying to provide opportunities for our student athletes to safely participate and have a season. If we work together and follow the guidelines in place, we will be doing everything we can to do that.”
