The City of Lee’s Summit will hold an open house public meeting Thursday, Oct. 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of The Summit Church to discuss improvements to Chipman Road from Bent Tree Drive to View High Drive. The Summit Church is located at 3381 NW Chipman Rd. in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the public to the preliminary design plan for improvements to Chipman Road. Representatives from the engineering design firm Wilson & Co. will be in attendance to answer any questions along with City staff. There will be no formal presentation, and residents can come and go as schedules allow.
As part of the improvements, Chipman Road will be reconstructed as a three-lane roadway with one lane in each direction and a middle turn lane. Street lighting, a multi-purpose path on the north side, and a sidewalk on the south side will also be added.
Construction is expected to begin spring 2020, and is expected to be completed by spring 2021.
In April 2018, the City of Lee’s Summit and Jackson County reached an agreement to remove the railroad bridge on Chipman Road west of Bent Tree Drive to widen Chipman Road to support two-way traffic. The Chipman Road Improvement project is one of six projects funded by the 2007 ½ cent capital improvement sales tax renewal.
