Santa will be available for pictures from 3 to 5 p.m. at the History Museum on Saturday, December 3rd, December 10th and 17th. Children of all ages are welcome. Bring your camera and shoot a selfie with Santa.
Vintage toys are on display this holiday season as well. The exhibit includes dolls from the early 1900’s, an 1800’s Wooden Horse Velocipede, toy electric ovens and TootsieToy cars and trucks.
TootsieToy had its beginnings in the two die-casting companies of the Dowst and the Shure brothers, who were established near the same time in the 1890’s. By the early 1920’s the name “tootsie” was being used as a brand name and “TootsieToy” was registered as a trademark in 1924. TootsieToy made metal prizes for the Cracker Jack boxes. This success may have led to the die cast pieces for the Monopoly game.
These toys will be on exhibit at the museum, 220 SW Main Street, Thursday and Friday 10 – 2 p.m. and Saturdays 10-4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, children 12 and under and Historical Society members are free. The museum is also open for groups by appointment by calling 816-287-4477.
