The Gardens at Unity Village are thriving, offering a delightful mix of both cool season and warm season veggies.
The tomato harvest is in full swing, promising a summer of ripe, juicy tomatoes. Bring on the BLTs! With over 180 tomato plants in our gardens behind the historic white barn, we are producing a wealth of tomatoes, perfect for fresh eating, preserving, and sharing with local community food pantries. Tomatoes from the Amish community are also available as an option.
Our warm season vegetable harvest also includes sweet lunchbox peppers, okra, and deep-hued, glossy eggplants ready for oven roasting. And don’t forget the cucumbers, so crisp and refreshing in summer salads.
Not to be outdone, the cool season Swiss chard and arugula from our raised bed garden are perfect examples of “cut and come again” vegetables, continuing to provide many harvests from the same plant. Our freshly harvested beets and turnips, with their smooth, firm skins, also offer verdant green tops, an “unsung hero” in the world of veggies. Whether in a salad or sautéed, these greens are delicious and nutritious!
Our Saturday Produce Market offers:
• Fresh and Local: Enjoy our “just picked” vegetables from our gardens, including the best of both cool season and warm season veggies
• Friendly Service: Our all-volunteer team warmly greets customers as they enter the market. We are here to assist with questions or help carry purchases to your car. We value your feedback to improve our service and produce offerings.
• Community Spirit: Meet other fresh produce and garden enthusiasts and learn about sustainable gardening practices. On July 27, the Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City will provide information on Container Gardening with Native Plants and offer a Children’s Activity to learn parts of a plant and create Veggie Art.
Market Details:
• When: Every Saturday from 8 AM until Noon, through September
• Where: 150 B NW Colbern Rd Lee’s Summit, MO
Bring your friends and family to our produce market and experience the nostalgia of the historic site, once the Unity Village Apple Barn, at The Gardens at Unity Village!
