A section of Southwest Ward Road will close Jan. 23, and will remain closed until June 2019, as the City of Lee’s Summit makes road improvements. After this first phase of construction, additional closures of Ward Road will follow through September 2019.
The closure will impact Southwest Ward Road from Southwest County Line Road to Southwest Raintree Parkway. The posted detour route for Ward Road is Gore Road, Prairie Lane, and County Line Road. Local access only will be provided north of Southwest Raintree Parkway. All closures are weather permitting.
The Ward Road Improvement project will widen and reconstruct Ward Road to a three-lane road from County Line Road to 163rd Street. This section will have a sidewalk, street lighting, an enclosed stormwater system, and curb and gutter.
The Ward Road Improvement project is funded by the ½ cent transportation sales tax approved by voters in 2007.
