The Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra (LSSO) is pleased to present “Watercolor Odyssey.” The event will take place at the Pavilion at John Knox Village on Saturday, Mar. 15 at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m., cash bar, and promises an enchanting evening of music inspired by the beauty and allure of water.
Watercolor Odyssey will feature a diverse selection of compositions that celebrate water in all its forms. The program opens with Handel’s majestic “Water Music,” a historically significant piece originally performed on the Thames river during King George the First’s reign in 1717.
Continuing on a journey through musical history, the orchestra will perform Bedrich Smetana’s evocative “Moldau,” which vividly portrays the journey of the Moldau river through Bohemia. This romantic-era masterpiece captures the river’s course, from its humble springs to its majestic merging with the Elbe.
Adding to the evening’s repertoire is Ronald Binge’s serene “Sailing By,” a beloved piece synonymous with the BBC Radio’s shipping forecast, evoking a tranquil maritime atmosphere Highlighting contemporary compositions, the concert will feature Chris Pilsner’s “A Light in the Ocean,” a stunning portrayal of the ocean’s varied moods, and Kirt Mosier’s “Azure,” which vibrantly reflects the blues of Florida’s skies and seas with energetic percussion.
No celebration of water would be complete without a nod to adventure, as the concert concludes with selections from “Pirates of the Caribbean,” captivating audiences with its swashbuckling spirit.
