The holiday season is approaching and with it comes a lot of traveling for many of us. The Kansas City Chiefs have their travel plans all set with a trip first to Music City USA, Nashville, Tennessee. Then the Chiefs will leave the country for a game in Mexico against division rival LA Chargers. The following week is the team’s annual bye week resulting in players going in every direction possible to visit family and friends.
Up first for the Chiefs is a road trip to play the Tennessee Titans who come into the game at 4-5. The Chiefs at 6-3 head into this AFC contest after taking on the challenge of a one-loss Packers team and beating a two-loss Vikings team. Many Chiefs fans are making the trip with the expectation of another Chiefs win in 2019. There are several factors going in that points to this being a very real possibility.
Slowly the Chiefs are getting back six of their starters who have missed multiple games this year. The biggest name being QB Pat Mahomes who as of press time is expected to return to action. Even if Mahomes sits out for a third straight week the team is getting used to Matt Moore who has been a part of two Chiefs wins already. DE Frank Clark and OT Eric Fisher making a return would give the team quite a boost. Chiefs fans saw last week what can happen with a healthy player back in the lineup as DE Chris Jones had a monster game against Minnesota.
While Chiefs fans are confident expect the Titans to do everything they can on Sunday to ruin that confidence. In fact the Titans are quite used to being an underdog to the Chiefs and coming out with a win. The Chiefs lead the series against the Titans but have lost the last three meetings between the two teams. One of those three games was the AFC playoff game on January 6, 2018 at Arrowhead where the Titans won 22-21.
Every week there is talk about the Chiefs defense and their ability to stop the run. Last week the Chiefs D-Line came up big limiting Vikings Dalvin Cook to just 71 yards on 21 carries. They will have to repeat that success this week as the Titans leading rusher Derrick Henry has 644 yards already this season. If it’s a close game the Chiefs will be the team having far more confidence in their place kicker. Former Chief Ryan Succop is back as the Titans kicker and finished 0-3 on field goals in his 2019 debut. Chiefs players and fans are still enjoying the work done by the AFC special teams player of the week in kicker Harrison Butker. Butker kicked a 54-yard field goal to tie up the game and a 44 yarder to win the game last week vs Minnesota.
Former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel is now the head coach of the Tennessee Titans and has had to make a quarterback switch already this year going from Marcus Mariota to Ryan Tannehill. The Titans have their issues in getting things set straight which means the visiting Chiefs will enjoy their first trip of the holiday season with a victory on Sunday. That’s What I REID Into It for this week.
