Last week the Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a Super Bowl 58 rematch against the San Francisco 49ers and this week get to play at the site of Super Bowl 58 Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Chiefs trip down memory lane continues at a venue they have never lost a game. The undefeated Chiefs are 4-0 at what is dubbed Arrowhead West.
Unlike last week this Chiefs game will not be shown to over 80% of the country. Those who will see it can catch the work of CBS broadcast crew Kevin Harlan and Trent Green. For those watching back home in Kansas City they are very familiar faces. One is a former radio voice of the Chiefs and the other a former starting QB for the team under head coach Dick Vermeil.
The Chiefs have a new face to show off on national television in WR DeAndre Hopkins who the team traded for on Wednesday. Hopkins, is 32, leaves a Tennessee Titans team at 2-5 for an undefeated team that leads the AFC standings at 6-0. The host Raiders enter at 2-5 on the season after a 20-15 loss to the LA Rams last week. The Chiefs last visit to Vegas was a success as they scored a 31-17 win. The last Chiefs/Raiders meeting in KC was not a success as the Chiefs lost at Arrowhead on Christmas Day 20-14. Since then the Chiefs have reeled off 12 straight wins.
Overall the teams have met 130 times with the Chiefs owning a 73-55-2 mark over the Raiders. In the last 10 meetings in this heated division rivalry the Chiefs are 8-2. QB Patrick Mahomes is slightly better as he enters at 10-2 vs the Raiders as the Chiefs starter. Mahomes has struggled a bit as evidenced by his eight interceptions on the season. Raiders starting QB Gardner Minshew also has thrown eight INT’s. Minshew is starting now after the Raiders benched Aiden O’ Connell.
The Raiders have enjoyed the production on offense from tight end Brock Bowers and the typical production from DE Maxx Crosby. The Chiefs battered offensive lineup has received pick me up performances from RB Kareem Hunt, rookie Carson Steele and back up TE Noah Gray.
The Chiefs are on top of the AFC West while the Raiders are on the bottom of the division 4.5 games behind. Chiefs players recall the team’s Christmas surprise last season and will ensure it doesn’t happen here. The Chiefs enjoy a trip to Vegas and score a win against a division rival this week. That’s What I REID Into It for this week.
