Celebrate Winnie-the-Pooh at the National WWI Museum and Memorial this Saturday, Jan. 18. Guests will learn about the real-life WWI bear who inspired the “tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff.” The program starts at 11 a.m. with cake, crafts and partner activities. At 11:30 and 12:30, The Coterie will present a family-friendly 30-minute story time performance and at 1:30 there will be a screening of the 2017 film “Goodbye Christopher Robin.” The event will end just in time to watch the Chiefs! This FREE event is hosted in partnership with The CoterieKansas City Public LibraryKansas City Zoo and AquariumNational Toys and Miniatures MuseumBee KC with cake provided by Sweet Bliss Cakery.

Also on Saturday, Jan. 18, the Museum and Memorial honors the long connection between WWI and Scouting with Scout Day 2025. The worldwide scouting movement had its birth in the years leading up to the Great War. For this special day, General Admission tickets for $5 will be available (onsite only) to all Scouts and Scout Leaders from all scouting organizations. Scouts and Scout Leaders must be in uniform to receive discounted admission. Regular admission tickets for additional guests will be available for purchase online and onsite.

Clive Harris, guide and director of Battle Honours, will discuss the Battle of the Frontiers, 1914 on Jan. 26. This talk about the opening action on the Western Front is an exclusive preview of the Museum and Memorial’s upcoming battlefield tour to Belgium. On Jan. 29, John T. Kuehn explores the history of the German East Asian Squadron, from its port in Qingdao, China to its defeat in the 1914 Battle of the Falkland Islands in The Last Cruise: German East Asian Squadron.

On Jan. 30, Richard S. Faulkner will explore the unforeseen consequences of artillery that contributed to the ugly attritional character of the Great War in Black Butchers, Big Berthas, and Bombardments: Technology and the Making of the Great War. This event is hosted at Linda Hall Library and is also available online.
