The 2024-25 winter sports season is just around the corner for area high schools. The preparation for a successful season began with the first day of practice on Monday, Nov. 4. Both boys and girls basketball along with girls wrestling started practicing followed by boys wrestling and girls swim/dive on Monday, Nov. 11.
As with any new season there are new lineups, new stars and in some cases even new coaches to get to know. At Lee’s Summit West the Titans welcome new head boys basketball coach Kyle Lower. Lower replaces Michael Schieber the only coach in LS West school history. Over at Lee’s Summit High School the Tigers have a new head wrestling coach in Cameron Pack. Pack replaces longtime coach Jay McGovern. For Guardians fans it’s a new head coach of the girls basketball team in Steve Cassity. Cassity is a familiar name thanks to coaching in the Kansas City metro area for a number of years.
Soon the games and matches will begin for these winter sports teams. A number of non-conference games will tip off the week of November 18. After the Thanksgiving break many area teams will play in tournaments starting the week of December 2nd. One tourney to keep an eye on is the annual Phog Allen Classic at William Chrisman High School. The Lee’s Summit North Broncos will play three games in this year’s event. An event taking place out of town is the annual Arvest Bank Classic played down in Springfield, MO. Representing the KC area will be the Raytown and LS West boys basketball teams December 5-7.
No matter the sport it’s time to head indoors and root for your favorite school or team as they compete for championships.
