On December 16, 2023, at 11 a.m., the Lee’s Summit Composite Squadron (LSCS) of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) will be placing wreaths at the National World War I Museum as part of the Wreaths Across America (WAA) program. The ceremony will be at the Liberty Memorial Tower, and then wreaths will be moved into the museum. LSCS and the Museum invite everyone to join us and support WAA. WAA endeavors to bring people together with sponsored veterans’ wreaths to honor our interred heroes across America. This is WAA’s 32nd year.

WAA’s yearlong mission is to Remember, Honor and Teach. This mission is carried out, in part, by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, veterans’ cemeteries, and other locations in all 50 states and beyond. In 2022, 2.7 million sponsored veterans’ wreaths were placed at more than 4,000 participating locations. Although people may be most familiar with National Wreaths Across America Day, the organization’s mission lasts far beyond one day in December, with teaching resources available on their website wreathsacrossamerica.org/Resources/EducationalResources.

To sponsor a wreath with the Lee’s Summit Composite Squadron, visit wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/167970/ to choose from hundreds of locations nationwide to have the wreath placed. If a location is not chosen, wreaths will go to Woodlawn Cemetery, since the WWI Memorial has exceeded its wreath goal.
