The Performers Studio at Metropolitan Community College-Longview will present the summer musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” starting July 8. The production is based on the iconic, long-running “Peanuts” comic strip by Charles M. Schulz.
The play will run July 8-10 and July 15-17. Showtime at MCC-Longview’s Cultural Arts Center, 500 S.W. Longview Road, Lee’s Summit, is 7:30 p.m. Thursdays-Fridays (July 8-9 and July 15-16) and 2:30 p.m. Saturdays (July 10 and July 17).
Tickets are $10 general admission; free for MCC students; $5 for other students. The box office will open one hour before each production.
MCC-Longview theater instructor Keith W. Townsend is directing the musical, which stars Jack Cott, Adrian Lorenzo Washington Jr., Abby Humston, Trenton Dean Chavez, Chase Tackett and Pidge Crozier.
In Clark Gesner’s classic musical, the whole “Peanuts” gang is here: Bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder, who doesn’t give her the time of day. Perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus. Snoopy is in (or on) the doghouse. And “blockhead” himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. Brief vignettes span the months from Valentine’s Day to Beethoven Day, from wild optimism to utter despair.
