Brenda Mae Smith of Greenwood, MO passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family on May 3, 2025. Brenda was born January 26, 1948 to Richard Fike and Goldie Mae (Gile) Smith in Kansas City, Missouri.

Brenda graduated from Raytown South High School in 1966 and attended UMKC. She was a housewife, a secretary of the family owned Bargain Spot Lumber Co., and retired from Lee’s Summit R-7 Transportation Department in 2012.

Brenda was baptized into the Lord in high school and then became a member of the Gregory Blvd Church of Christ. She was a founding member of the Church of Christ on Smart Road and was a member there until her death. On the Wednesday before her death, she said she was so excited to see Jesus. Her faith was foundational to her life. She was very active in her church, teaching classes, making food, and sending cards. She even sent cards on the week of her death.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Golden Smith and her brother Robert Allen Smith. She is survived by her husband James Lewis Smith; her children Kellie (Mark) Brassfield, Kyle (Stephanie) Stephens, Kirk (Casie) Stephens, Rebecca (Gary) Brucker, and James (Harley) Smith. Her 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren were the greatest loves of her life. She is also survived by her brothers Richard Fike (Debbie) Smith and Stanley Gordon Smith, her sister-in-law Marianne Smith and many nieces and nephews.

Brenda’s visitation will be from 10 to 11 am on Friday, May 9th, this will be followed immediately by the funeral service. Services will be held at the Church of Christ on Smart Road, 13105 Smart Road, Lee’s Summit, MO. Burial will immediately follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.
