In 2019, the City of Lee’s Summit will be working with Property Reserve, Inc. (PRI) to master plan 4,000 acres of undeveloped PRI property not previously available to the market. The land is in two large tracts located within the city limits.
Approximately 1,000 acres are situated east of Interstate 470, south of Woods Chapel Road and north of Colbern Road. This area is bisected by Todd George Road which runs parallel to I-470. The second parcel consists of 3,000 acres south of Longview Road following a southeasterly direction just east of Route 291 South, near the Hook Road intersection at Route 291 South.
“Master planning these properties will be transformational to the City’s future,” said Mayor Bill Baird. “Working in partnership with PRI, we will be able to see continued quality growth in our community for many years to come. Together we will be able to develop a long-term, visionary plan that will strengthen our economy.”
Because careful study and planning need to be completed before the properties can be marketed and developed, Property Reserve has no immediate plans to offer the land for sale. PRI has engaged a Kansas City-based engineering firm to conduct an environmental, transportation and utility services assessment of the two properties. Upon completion of that assessment, PRI will meet with City of Lee’s Summit leadership to develop long-term implementation plans relating to transportation and utility services development. Ultimately, there will be a master land-use plan created for the properties to provide a reasonable approach to development of these areas.
“The announcement of the future development of this land is timely given the City is poised to begin our community-based strategic planning process,” said Lee’s Summit City Manager Stephen Arbo. “We will be asking PRI to participate in our dialogue as we develop our best course forward.”
The City’s strategic planning process will begin in early 2019 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-2019.
