Laurel Hills Elementary School was designated as a Gold award recipient for their successful adoption and implementation of School-wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS) by the Missouri School-Wide Positive Behavior Support program (MO SW-PBS). Laurel Hills is one of only five schools in the Kansas City metro to receive a Gold award, the highest designation awarded by MO SW-PBS.

Laurel Hills implemented SW-PBS in the 2013-2014 school year and earned bronze designation in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years; and silver designation in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years.

“Earning Gold recognition is a huge accomplishment for Laurel Hills,” said Laurel Hills Elementary Principal Dr. Suzanne Brennaman. “Each year, Laurel Hills has worked hard to meet the award criteria established through MO SW-PBS and I am so proud of the continued commitment staff, students, and families have made to the program.”

In order to be considered for the Gold designation schools had to submit evidence that they were implementing SW-PBS with fidelity in their buildings to the regional professional development center consultants for School-Wide Positive Behavior Support.

According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, “Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support is a systematic approach to creating safer and more effective schools by structuring the learning environment to support the academic and social success of all students.”
