Students and staff from around the District were selected to receive scholarships from the Kansas City Scholars program (KC Scholars).
The KC Scholars program awarded scholarships of $10,000, renewable for up to five years, to eleventh-graders from the six-county Kansas City region. In order to receive a scholarship, students must attend one of 17 colleges or universities in the KC Scholars network. Students selected from Raytown High School include Isabella Contreras, Kimberly Flores, Reese Minter, Melanie Valencia, Lillian Rhodes, Iris Vazquez, and Destiny Wiley, and Isabella Williams. Students selected as KC Scholars from Raytown South High include juniors Linda Clark and Seth King.
As part of the KC Scholars program, eleventh-graders from Raytown High School and Raytown South High School were also selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship, renewable for up to five years to the University of Missouri – Columbia. Students selected from Raytown High School include Jada Alexander, Omar Andrade, Jesse Best, Markel Hill, Armani Holland, Taylor Iverson, Thomas Meyers, Marissa Poole, Daniel Schwaller, Lillith Vieux, Jor’Dan Weatherspoon, and Kennedy Wynn. Students selected from Raytown South High School include Hopecawin Janis, Adam Lanear, Angelia Reddell, and Destiny Silvers.
As part of the KC Scholars program, eleventh-graders from Raytown High School and Raytown South High School were also selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship, renewable for up to five years to the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Students selected from Raytown High School include Amber Johnson, Cristian Martinez, and Jakob Peterson. Students selected from Raytown South High School include Lauren Boynton, Beverly Mauro, Jorden Phillips, Erica Smalls, and Martha Wleh. All KC Scholars students are also required to complete GPA and graduation requirements their senior year in order to receive the scholarship.
More than 500 ninth-graders from around the metro were also awarded College Savings Accounts and have the opportunity to earn up to $7,000 for college when they graduate from high school. Freshmen from Raytown High School who will receive College Savings Accounts include Isis Brewer, Don’Te Floyd, Naomi Gonterman, Seth Miles, Molly Pieratt, and Mustafa Vural. Freshmen from Raytown South High School who will receive College Savings Accounts include Kaileaha Alcantara, Kai Hensel, Anita Ihenacho, Jerry Mitchell, Zachary Schmitt, and Cilina Touch.
Raytown School District staff members were also selected to receive Adult Learner Scholarships from the KC Scholars program to continue their education. Raytown High School Interventionist Amber Bloecher, Raytown South High School Administrative Assistant Renee Schleicher, and Three Trails Preschool Instructional Assistants Amber Bradley, Jennifer Gutierrez, and Justin Perryman will receive $5000 for five years. Bloecher plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology and possibly an additional minor in social work. Schleicher plans to complete a bachelor’s degree in human resources. Amber Bradley and Jennifer Gutierrez plan to complete their degrees in early childhood special education and Justin Perryman plans to complete his degree in early childhood education.
In order to qualify for the Adult Learner Scholarship, recipients had to reside in Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte (MO) or Johnson and Wyandotte (KS) counties; have at least 12 college hours or an associate’s degree completed; and plan to complete their degree at one of the 17 colleges and universities in the KC Scholars Postsecondary Network.
The KC Scholars program is a part of the Kauffman Foundation.
