Dr. Utpal Goswami, president of MCC-Longview, has accepted a position as Superintendent/President of Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara, California, and will begin his new role in January 2020.

The Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) board of trustees announced the selection October 26.

“Dr. Goswami provided steady leadership at both the Maple Woods and Longview campuses,” said Chancellor Dr. Kimberly Beatty, “and has helped MCC grow with the expansion of dual credit programs, promotion of shared governance and, most recently, working with me to broaden MCC’s footprint and develop annexation strategies.”

During his time at MCC, he has been steadfast in his focus on giving students additional higher education opportunities and advancing MCC’s mission.

“Dr. Goswami brings a depth of experience, and we are certain that he will move Santa Barbara City College forward,” said SBCC Board of Trustees President Robert K. Miller. “He is a proven leader with a commitment to students and their success. We are confident that he will build collaborative relationships on campus and in the community.”

Before coming to MCC, Goswami was both a member of the faculty and administration at colleges in Texas, California, Arizona and Missouri.
