On Royals Opening Day, July 24, Kansas Citians team up to help kids! Fans who donate can receive commemorative Royals flags to support the Rotary Youth Camp.
Buy a Flag Help a Kid!
When you buy the commemorative Kansas City Royals flag your donation allows the Rotary Youth Camp to continue to offer camping experiences to disabled and disadvantaged youth.
Following the closure to traditional overnight camping, the camp and Rotary Club 13 are aiding families who are struggling due to income loss or financial strain occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When is Greater Kansas City Day?
The 33rd Annual Greater Kansas City Day, presented by Price Chopper, kicks off on the morning of Royals Opening Day on Friday, July 24.
Greater Kansas City Day will be Friday July 24th– celebrating the return of Royals Baseball. While fans cannot go to the games, we ask that everyone cheers on our boys in blue from the safety of their homes with this year’s Greater Kansas City Day flag! Due to safety concerns we will not be selling flags or newspapers on street corners, instead, we ask that you buy your flag at your local Price Chopper or online at royals.com/gkcday.
Where does the money go?
Your donation to Royals Charities supports the Rotary Youth Camp’s mission to host organizations which serve disabled and disadvantaged youth, free of charge. Additional children’s charities from throughout the Greater Kansas City area benefit from your donations collected by local Rotary Club members and other volunteers from the sales of flags and papers when it was safe to do so in previous years.
What does the Rotary Youth Camp do?
Focusing on offering camping experiences for disabled and disadvantaged youth since 1925, the Rotary Youth Camp has seen more than 300,000 campers experiencing life-changing moments. The layout of the campgrounds and activities are planned with campers’ specific needs and disabilities in mind, featuring a state-of-the-art, fully handicapped-accessible pool, 13 “dorm-style” cabins, tent camping areas, an accessible nature trail, and more. Generous community members and donations from events such as Greater Kansas City Day cover its operating expenses.
Where can friends/family members purchase a flag in person?
Flags will be sold at Kansas City area Price Chopper locations (while supplies last). Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, volunteers will not be on street corners selling newspapers and flags as in previous years.
How is Rotary Youth Camp impacting kids during the pandemic?
Following the closure to traditional overnight camping, the camp and Rotary Club 13 are aiding families who are struggling due to income loss or financial strain occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic through the Rotary Cares program. The Rotary Youth Camp aids the families and organizations who usually use the camp in the summer through monetary and in-kind donations to help campers enjoy a camp-like experience this summer or with other needs. Organizations helped by Rotary Cares in 2020 include Cornerstones of Care-Gillis School, Family Resource Center of Cass County, iCare Ministries, Camp Rise KC, Kansas City Indian Center, Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders, Christ Temple Summer Camp and Girls Can Camp.
Rotary Youth Camp is located at: 22310 NE Colbern Rd. Lee’s Summit, MO 64086
