The 2021 high school football season is still two months away but area football fans were able to have fun supporting their favorite teams this week. Thanks to the efforts of the Missouri Helmet Project any fan who has a Twitter account could vote for the helmet of their favorite team.

This online only effort started on Tuesday, Jun. 15 and will last several rounds before ending at the end of the month. Lee’s Summit area fans participated thanks to three local high schools taking part in the fun. The Lee’s Summit Tigers, LS West Titans and the St. Michael’s Guardians all had helmet entries in this project.

Each round only lasts 24 hours so fans are urged to keep following the progress of their favorite teams so they can cast their votes in time. The first round began on Jun. 15 and by 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jun. 16 everyone knew who had received the most votes. First round matchups found Lee’s Summit going up against Park Hill and LS West was up against Liberty. Tigers fans learned the good news as Lee’s Summit won over Park Hill by a 65% to 35% count. Titans fans were not as fortunate as LS West only received 37.5% of the vote in losing to Liberty.

Local high school football fans can learn more by visiting the Helmet Missouri Twitter page. When placing a vote fans are invited to use the hashtag #mohelmetchallenge. The Lee’s Summit Tigers are on to the next round and fans can find out more by looking for region 11, the region the Tigers are competing in. Tigers fans can also follow the team’s Twitter page at lstigerfootball to ensure not to miss a chance to vote and help the Tigers advance to the next round.
