The Raytown Educational Foundation hosted their 23rd annual Run for Excellence, “Boo in 2022” on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

The proceeds from this event support the foundation as well as its Dual Credit Scholarships, Teaching and Learning Grants, and Student Recognition programs. School groups who registered 10 or more participants also received a Cash for Classroom grant.

The 5K Run/Walk began on the track at Chittwood Stadium at Raytown High School and ran along Blue Ridge Boulevard, part of the historic Santa Fe Trail. The course is certified by USA Track and Field and is a favorite of Raytown runners as one that is “flat and fast”. It was a beautiful morning for 179 registered runners to participate and the 105 virtual registrants to take it easy, yet still support the foundation.

Special features of this year’s run included the return of participant, Tom Wagstaff, following five years of rehabilitation after his injury in the line of duty as an Independence police officer. In addition, Raytown Quality Schools new superintendent, Dr. Martin-Knox, served as the run’s announcer recognizing the 52 place winners and all the sponsors. Top Overall Male winner was David Dempsey at 19:42.1 and the Top Overall Female winner was Sarah McIntyre at 26:04.
