This week, nearly 40 RQS students and their teachers had a chance of a lifetime, helping unveil Riveting Robots, the newest $1 million exhibit at Science City at Union Station.

Riveting Robots, the Raytown Challenge Gifted Program’s robotics-themed proposal, won the Burns & McDonnell STEM Battle of the Brains competition in March 2022 and earned the school $50,000 in grant money and the opportunity to work with professionals at Burns & McDonnell to transform the space.

The win provided many opportunities for students throughout the 2022-23 school year, including hands-on experiences with engineers at Burns & McDonnell with visits to their offices and meeting with several members of their team responsible for building the exhibit.

The $50,000 grant funding benefited students on numerous levels, including a student trip to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, KS, the purchase of various STEM items for the challenge program, professional learning opportunities for challenge teachers, coordinating educational speakers for student assemblies, and so more.

Thanks go out to Burns & McDonnell from the school district, for this incredible opportunity and for serving as a #rayofhope to challenge students and to the students who worked so hard to make this vision into a reality.

The exhibit is at Science City at Union Station Union Station located at 30 W Pershing Rd in Kansas City. For more information or the purchase tickets visit sciencecity.unionstation.org.
