Sandy Hughes, mother of two, has worked as a firefighter with the Lee’s Summit Fire Department for 10 years.

Sandy grew up in Germany and moved to the U.S. about 12 years ago. She ran her first 5K in 2010 and became hooked! She now tries to run five to ten half-marathons and one full marathon each year.

This year, Sandy is running the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 7, 2018. The race will begin and end in Grant Park and wind 26.2 miles through about 29 neighborhoods.

Sandy runs each race for charity, and the Chicago Marathon is no different. She is running with Team RMHC, raising money to help fund the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Sandy became familiar with the Ronald McDonald House when a friend’s daughter was injured in an ATV accident. The daughter was airlifted to a hospital far from home, and the RMHC helped house and feed her friend as the young girl healed from her injuries.

The generosity and support of the people who run and volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House impressed Sandy, and she wants to help give back.

“Did you know $25 can provide dinner for a family and $80 can give a family a room for a night? Your donation, of any amount, will not only help me achieve my goal, but will help children stay close to their families when they need it most!”

Sandy is accepting donations to the RMHC through the following website: http://support.rmhc.org/goto/sandyhughes.

Please consider supporting Sandy and the Ronald McDonald House Charities by donating, and help cheer her toward the finish line!
