Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II is pleased to announce that Mackenzie Brummett and William Finch have been offered an Appointment to the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA).

The USAFA is a highly competitive environment with an acceptance rate of just 12.3%. To be eligible for an appointment to the Academy, you must be nominated by a member of the U.S. House of Representatives or by a Senator.

A nomination does not guarantee appointment to the Academy, however, no appointment can be offered without one.

Congressman Cleaver nominated both Brummett and Finch based on a combination of their academic achievements, leadership performance, numerous volunteer activities and athletic participation.

“We are so proud of Mackenzie for her hard work and achievements. I believe one day she will accomplish her goals to help people all around the world. I cannot wait to see those dreams come true. Congratulations!” said Congressman Cleaver.

Brummett is an enthused gymnast and will be competing on the USAFA gymnastics team. She is a Senior at Lee’s Summit West High School and would like to major in Biology for a future career in medicine.

“Congratulations to William. He has worked hard for this achievement and he deserves the best. I cannot wait to see his dreams come true,” said Congressman Cleaver.

Finch is currently attending the Air Force Academy Prep School and planning to attend USAFA in 2018. He graduated from Summit Christian Academy in May 2017. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Varsity Baseball in High school. He has participated in many charitable volunteer groups and interned at Whiteman Air Force Base in the summer of 2016 shadowing the Civil Engineering Air Force Academy.
