Through the efforts of the Autism Outreach Fellowship and the support of the Mayor and City of Lee’s Summit, Friday, March 30, 2018, was declared Special Needs Day. On Saturday, March 31, Mayor Rhoads read a proclamation in honor of the day at City Hall Plaza prior to the annual Bunny Hop Parade.

The Easter Bunny, atop the Lee’s Summit historic fire engine, lead the parade up Third Street to Howard Station Park where the Bunny Ears and Easter Hat Contest was held in addition to free candy and photos with the Easter Bunny. Following the contest, Special Needs Day festivities took place at the Lee’s Summit Fire Fighters Association Union Hall and the VFW Jack Ray Post. Over 20 booths offered information on resources and programs available for the special needs community. There was also be food, drink and sensory-friendly activities for all to enjoy.
