The City of Lee’s Summit is seeking local property owners and tenants to assist and give feedback in the review of the latest update of the City’s Property Maintenance Code. Participation in this project requires a time commitment of one hour per week, for six to eight weeks. Meetings will be held from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St., and are expected to begin the first week of May.

The Property Maintenance Code provides a uniform and reasonable standard for property maintenance and establishes minimum requirements for such things as grass height to occupancy concerns. The intent of the code is to help maintain a better quality of life within the community, protect property values, and ensure the safety and welfare of our residents.

“As part of the overall quality housing strategy for the City, it is important to periodically review and update the Property Maintenance Code to ensure we are meeting minimum safety standards for dwelling units as well as maintaining high quality standards,” said Assistant Director of Plan Services Josh Johnson. “It is vitally important to empower both property owners and renters to help determine what aspects of the new Property Maintenance Code are a good fit for the City.”
