Community Blood Drive: “Be the Real MVP” July 23 From 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, and Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, will host a community blood drive July 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Howard Conference Room (second floor) of Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St. Visit esavealifenow.org and enter the sponsor code “cityleessummit” to sign up for the “Be the real MVP” event. All presenting donors will receive a pair of Royals tickets.

The Community Blood Center has declared a blood emergency and this is an opportunity for the Lee’s Summit community to help replenish the critically low blood supply. All blood types are needed to help patients, especially type O. The City’s goal is to collect 80 units of blood during the event. Walk-in donors are permitted but it is preferred that donors sign up in advance to prevent long waits.

The requirements to donate blood are few. Donors must be in good health, weigh a minimum of 115 pounds and be at least 17 years of age (16 yrs. with parental consent). It is also important to drink plenty of fluids and eat a good meal prior to a blood donation.
