The Colts Drum and Bugle Corps from Dubuque, IA were part of Drum Corps International’s “Brass Impact” event on Monday night, July 16 at the College Boulevard Activity Center in Olathe, KS. Among the performers were two Lakewood residents Deena and Hanna Nebulsi. Both Blue Springs South graduates were among several other drum corps participants from across the country.
While not a high school event, Drum Corp International is an organization founded in 1971 to organize and unify leadership for youth-focused competitive drum corps events throughout North America. Students may audition and perform/compete in one of the corps from ages 13 to 22. It is a summer activity so the students are able attend high school or college in the fall.
Among the spectators at Monday night’s event were many area high school bands bussed out to Olathe the watch the event.
