The Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Board (LSPR) has approved a contract to purchase the Longview Recreation Center located on the Longview campus from the Board of Trustees for the Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City, Mo (MCC). In addition to the $4.1 million purchase price, LSPR plans to invest approximately $1.5 million to renovate the facility and update equipment to a comparable level as the Legacy Park Community Center. An anticipated re-opening of the facility is expected in the coming months under the new name Longview Community Center.

“LSPR is excited to add the Longview facility to our award-winning and accredited agency,” Joe Snook, LSPR Administrator, said. “Longview Community Center will be a great complement to the Legacy Park Community Center and gives LSPR the opportunity to provide similar health, fitness, and recreational amenities on the west side of our community. We are excited to expand our reach and scope of services to better support our patrons.”

In addition to providing service to our community, LSPR will continue to support the academic and athletic needs of MCC-Longview.

“As MCC looks to the future, we are optimizing our resources,” Kimberly Beatty, Chancellor of MCC, said. “This agreement allows us to continue to benefit from this property, but also contributes to our ongoing mission of serving the community and creating opportunities not just for our students but also for the general public, all while providing equitable access.”

For patrons interested in learning more about LSPR and its newest facility, they are encouraged to attend one of two Meet and Greet sessions being offered. These sessions will be held at Gamber Community Center on Tuesday, August 14 from 5:30 – 7:30PM in Ballroom B, and on Saturday, August 18 from 8:30 – 10:30AM in Ballroom A. The goal of the Meet and Greet sessions is to provide answers to inquiries regarding the renovations plan, project timelines, and anticipated programs and schedules, as well as to offer membership registrations.
