On Sept. 5, the Raytown School District, Raytown Schools Board of Education, and Raytown High School celebrated the completion of the Raytown High School Baseball/Softball Stadium with a ribbon-cutting at Raytown High School.

Pending Raytown Schools Board of Education approval on Sept. 10, 2018, the new field will be named Clyde Thompson Field after retired Raytown High School teacher and baseball coach Clyde Thompson. Coach Thompson taught Math and Physical Education from 1953-1984 and served as the Head Baseball Coach at Raytown High from 1969 to 1984. After retiring from teaching and coaching, Thompson continued to work for the Raytown School District as a bus driver and served the district for more than 50 years.

At the ceremony, Superintendent Dr. Allan Markley, Board President Dr. Kristie Collins, Raytown High School Principal Dr. Chad Bruton, Coach Clyde Thompson, and Raytown Area Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Rene Purtee shared remarks, as well as, Justin Durham, a Raytown High School alum and architect at Hollis and Miller, and Brock Miller the Marketing and Sales Manager at Mid-America Sports Construction. Current baseball and softball players and their families were also on hand for the ribbon cutting. After the ceremony, the Raytown High varsity softball team hosted their first home game against Fort Osage.
