Pictured L to R: Mayor Bill Baird, Prairie Chapter DAR Past Regent, Betty Taylor, DAR member Connie Studyvin and DAR member Jane Pritchett

On September 6, 2018, the Prairie Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution accepted a proclamation from the City of Lee’s Summit Mayor, Bill Baird, in recognition of Constitution Week starting September 17, 2018.

Prairie Chapter Past Regent, Betty Taylor, accepted the proclamation along with chapter members Connie Studyvin and Jane Pritchett. The Prairie Chapter then awarded Mayor Baird and the Lee’s Summit City Council a certificate of appreciation for their ongoing support and recognition of Constitution Week.

Constitution Week was officially declared by President Eisenhower on August 2, 1956. This was the culmination of a proposal from the DAR. DAR has been the foremost advocate for the awareness, promotion and celebration of Constitution Week. By fostering knowledge of and appreciation for the Constitution and the in-alienable rights it affords to all Americans, DAR helps keep alive the memory of the men and women who secured our nation’s independence and whose bravery and sacrifice made possible the liberties we enjoy today.
