LEE’S SUMMIT, MO—On Wednesday, October 03, 2018 at 12:09 p.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1224 SW Persels Road. Several neighbors called 911 to report smoke and fire coming from the kitchen window of the house. The neighbors attempted to alert the occupants of the house without a response.

When the fire department arrived, smoke was visible from the back of a two-story, single family home.

Firefighters entered the smoke filled building and extinguished a fire involving most of the kitchen. A search of the house confirmed that no one was home. The occupant was able to be reached by phone and returned to the residence. The fire was under control by 12:37 p.m.

The fire originated on the stove top and caused extensive damage to the kitchen and dining area, with heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the remainder of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
