During his first week on the job, Lee’s Summit Medical Center CEO John McDonald took time for a meet-and-greet with Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council leadership. Lee’s Summit’s longest running hospital hosted LSEDC’s September Advisory Luncheon, where they were updated on hospital expansion plans, initiatives and successful outcomes.
“We are fortunate to be a part of a community that is constantly growing—bringing new businesses, jobs and residents into Lee’s Summit and our surrounding areas,” McDonald said after the luncheon. “In addition to providing our community with the highest quality healthcare, Lee’s Summit Medical Center is committed to bringing more specialties along with the latest medical technology to Lee’s Summit, so our neighbors can receive care, close to home.”
LSMC COO Pat Kueny provided an overview of the hospital’s quality initiatives aimed at driving successful clinical outcomes, including:
•Employee engagement rate of 85 percent
•Physician engagement rate of 91 percent
•Nurse turnover rate significantly lower than the average—10.4 percent for LSMC compared with 16.8 percent nationally.
•LSMC’s Sarah Cannon Cancer Center leads the nation in cancer diagnoses each year, diagnosing 120,000 patients and surpassing even the noted M.D. Anderson.
Kueny also updated LSEDC on accredited programs that LSMC is continually improving to meet community needs. Joint Commission Accredited Programs include the Chest Pain Center, Primary Stroke Center and Core Total Joint- Hips and Knees replacement program. In addition, the hospital’s State of Missouri Accreditation Programs—STEMI Level II and Stroke Level II–are in a constant state of process improvement.
Lee’s Summit Medical Center is part of HCA Midwest Health. The hospital is an 80-bed, full-service hospital with a medical staff of more than 300 physicians representing more than 40 specialties.
