The City of Lee’s Summit is asking the public for feedback on potential community goals and strategies to address barriers to fair housing choice. Over the summer, the City solicited public opinion to understand issues related to housing, housing choice and the overall quality of life of its citizens. Barriers were identified and will be used to develop fair housing goals and strategies with the input of citizens and stakeholders through a number of community events in October and November.

A community survey will be conducted Oct. 17 through Nov. 19. The survey will be available online on the City’s website at bit.ly/LShousing. Hard copies will be mailed to select residents and are available upon request by contacting the City at 816-969-1600 or emailing planning@cityofLS.net. All survey responses are anonymous.

A public meeting will be held Oct. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gamber Community Center, where residents can learn more about identified barriers to housing choice and provide input on the development of fair housing goals and strategies. Gamber Community Center is located at 4 SE Independence Ave. in Lee’s Summit.

The City will host a public forum Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to present results from the public participation and consultation events on barriers to choice to community stakeholders. Small group discussions will be conducted to prioritize goals and strategies. The forum will be held in the Howard Conference Room at City Hall, 220 SE Green St. Participants are required to RSVP.

These surveys and public meetings will help the City with the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The City encourages citizens, housing providers, housing developers, housing services, public service providers, employers, community leaders, advocacy groups, public officials, and persons with special needs to participate in this important community engagement process.
