The bands and music departments of the Lee’s Summit High Schools were very busy this past weekend.

On Saturday, Dec. 29 all three marching bands marched in the Citrus Parade in Orlando, FL. For those who missed it, KMBC Channel 9 will air the parade performance on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m.

On Sunday morning Dec. 30 the LSN Orchestra was a featured performance ensemble for the holiday crowds in Disney Springs.

That evening the LSW and LSN concert choirs sang two performances of the Candlelight Processional at Epcot’s America Gardens Theater in the World Showcase. One of the most highly anticipated holiday events in Walt Disney World – The Candlelight Processional – presents the traditional story of the holidays in truly spectacular fashion. The performance features a 50-piece professional orchestra, a massed choir and a celebrity narrator. This year the celebrity narrator was legendary baseball player Cal Ripken, Jr. Both choirs were selected for this honor through a video taped audition over a year ago.

The next day, the LSW and LSHS Orchestras came together for a Disney Recording workshop. Students experience the excitement of a working recording studio where professional clinicians presented sight-reading techniques, performance concepts and the entire process of laying down a musical track. Taught by industry composers, arrangers, conductors or studio musicians, this 90-minute workshop culminated with a screening of the students’ recorded work set to Disney film footage.
