Village Hospice is teaming up with the Veterans History Project to host a training seminar that will teach volunteers how to interview American war veterans so their stories can be shared well into the future.

The seminar will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 at Places Manhattan Room located at1001 Chipman Road in Lee’s Summit. (Places Restaurant/Places Manhattan Room is located on the campus of John Knox Village.)

Mary Kay Quinlan, an oral historian certified by the Oral History Association, is leading the workshop.

Through the Veterans History Project, volunteers collect veterans’ personal accounts of their military experiences, which are then submitted to the Library of Congress for preservation. In turn, the library makes the stories accessible to the public. This important project will enable current and future generations to better understand the realities of war directly from the people who fought. It is estimated that less than 475,000 veterans who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam are still alive in the United States.

The training is open to anyone who is interested. Please RSVP by calling 816-347-2578 by Friday, Jan. 18. Light refreshments will be provided.
