On Thursday, January 17, 11:22 p.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported automatic residential alarm in the 1500 Block of SW 6th Street. When the fire department arrived, smoke was visible from a single-story, single family residence and the call was upgraded to a structure fire for additional equipment and personnel.

Firefighters entered the house and found heavy smoke conditions on the inside. As they were entering, another occupant of the house arrived home and told firefighters the other occupant of the house was likely in the living room. As crews searched the smoke filled house they found a victim deceased in the living room and extinguished a small fire. A search of the remainder of the house confirmed there was no one else inside. The incident was under control by 11:52 p.m.

Fire damage was contained to the living room with smoke and heat damage throughout much of the house. The Lee’s Summit Fire Department, Police Department, and the Missouri State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
