Parents, students, and staff had the opportunity to nominate a teacher who has shown excellence in fulfilling SCA’s mission to “inspire students to achieve their God-given potential through excellent academics and Christian training in a compassionate environment.”

There were a total of 348 nominations for 36 different teachers, from which seven were selected as finalists. Finalists included second grade teacher Mrs. Trish Teilborg, sixth grade teacher Mrs. Haylee Walker, secondary science teacher Mr. Tim Schwab, secondary social studies teacher Mr. Greg Finch, early education teacher Mrs. Ann Finch, sixth grade teacher Mrs. Courtney Cox and secondary business teacher Mrs. Elaine Whitfield.

Mr. Finch has been a teacher at SCA for the past 18 years. He and his wife Pam have three children Bethany (Finch) Lee, Emily (Finch) Parker and Jonathan Finch, all of whom attended and graduated from SCA.

“I cannot tell you how blessed I was to read the stories and comments our parents, students, faculty, and staff shared in their nominations. We are fortunate to have such an amazing faculty,” said SCA Head of School Linda Harrelson. “Mr. Finch’s excitement and passion make history come alive. He further shares his love for our nation’s foundation with students on guided tours of Washington, D.C. Mr. Finch views his teacher role as not a job but a calling, and you feel that from the moment you walk into his classroom.”

Mr. Finch was presented with a plaque, an SCA designated parking place, and a monetary award. As SCA’s Teacher of the Year, Mr. Finch is also a candidate for the Great Plains Alliance of Christian Schools Teacher of the Year. The GPACS Teacher of the Year will be announced in January 2020.
