The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, is hosting a community blood drive on July 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Howard Conference Room at City Hall, 220 SE Green St. Tickets to see the Kansas City Royals are available to those who sign up to donate blood.

Blood donations typically drop in the summer months, but the demand does not. Donations help those in need of blood in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Community Blood Center says it needs 500 donors each day to meet the demands of area hospitals. A single pint of blood can save up to three lives.

Donors will have the option to receive two free tickets to a Royals game, a free Royals T-shirt or a $5 gift card to the MLB store. Gifts may be selected through the online donor portal after the blood drive.

Donors can register at http://ow.ly/FOis50uLPe7 by using the group code KCJN. There are certain requirements to donate blood. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 115 pounds and be in good overall health. Donors can be 16 years old with written consent from a parent or legal guardian. It is also important to drink plenty of fluids and eat a good meal prior to donating blood.

Walk-in donors are allowed, but it is preferred that donors sign up in advance to prevent long wait times.
