The planning commission has recommended approval of a new Wendy’s restaurant on 291 Highway near Melody Lane.

The property, at 711 SE M-291 Highway, is currently occupied by a 6,500-square-foot sit-down restaurant building that has been vacant for more than five years. The preliminary development plan includes demolition of that property and the building of a 2,600 square foot fast food restaurant with asphalt parking lot, concrete sidewalks and drive-thru, and landscaping.

“Love that that vacant property is getting renovated,” said Commissioner Mark Kitchens. “I absolutely adore that.”

With a unanimous vote at their Oct. 10 meeting and no commentary from the public, the preliminary development plan will go to the Lee’s Summit City Council with a favorable recommendation.

Commissioners John Lovell and Jake Loveless were absent from the meeting.
